Ganggyeong Daeheung Market
Ganggyeong-eup located in the western part of Nonsan, Chungcheongnam-do Province is famous for the Ganggyeongpogu Port and the local salted fish and seafood. The history of the Ganggyeong Market can be traced back all the way to the late 17th century when shops began to spring up along the Ganggyeongcheon Stream. By the end of the 19th century, a large market was formed, and it was one of the three biggest markets in Joseon alongside the ones in Daegu and Pyongyang. As such, it boasts long traditions and history.
Ganggyeong Daeheung Market is a traditional market established in October 1955, with the aim of maintaining Ganggyeong’s stature as a commercial city. It was initially opened as an oiljang (a market opened every five days on certain dates), but it is now running as a permanent market, with the oiljang held on the 4th and 9th every month.
